Goodbye My Love
October 19, 2006 from Casper, Wyoming
I was hanging out with the high school clan tonight, all friends of Jette. Since it was a clear night we drove up to the top of the peak to get a beautiful overlook of the city once again. This time it was crystal clear, and every star could be seen, and every light in town. Well apparently it's windy in Casper. It was some very very strong winds up there. I took off my hat and threw it on the car seat when I got out so it wouldn't blow away. Snapped a couple pictures. As I got back in the car, the door was still open and I went to put on my hat, it was gone before I even realized it. The wind ripped it out of my hand and away it went. We searched and searched, nothing, it could have gone anywhere, maybe over the cliff.
Honestly, I'm devastated. It's a navy blue Burton Snowboards hat, with gold embroidered lettering. It's a fitted cap with stains all around it from sweat, and a dirty blue rather than the sharp dark blue it once was, now faded and gone into the cold. I bought it when I was a sophomore at MSU (fall 2002). I know that Kevin and Allison were there when I bought it, maybe Chris too. I bought it Modern Skate and Surf in East Lansing, MI. I didn't have money to buy it, I wasn't planning on buying it. But I did. And it was the ha I wore just about every day during the summer. Now it's gone, just like that. *sigh*
People have known me for my hats for ages. Since I was a young boy I collected hats. I always wanted the finest caps. Some I would take special care of and never wear or even let it collect dust. Some would be me sweaty, get dirty, and let it fade hats. Those ones that you always wear. That's what this one was. It wasn't even the most comfortable hat, but I loved it. People would be able to recognize me from long long distances because of a hat I was wearing. I have tons of hats, but only a few that I wear non-stop. Those are the ones people always see me in, wearing in tons of pictures.
I never lost stuff. Never. I'm almost upset with myself. It had tons of sentimental value. That was the hat to wear for this trip, I brought two others, but I wear the Burton one. I baby my hats, they're a part of me, always have been. It's time to find a new baby, break a new hat in, and it can take well over a year to bring a hat to where it should be. I never thought I would have to look for a hat sponsor. I just never thought this day would come. It's a sad day.
Wyoming, take care of my hat for me. I'll miss it. Thankfully, Jeanette took this picture lastnight, and it's perfect. The last time it will ever be in a photo and I'm happy it's a cheery photo with character.
