You're viewing the original Hometown Invasion Tour website as it appeared in 2006/07. At the time, a site built with tables and flash was commonplace. A few backend changes were made to keep the site functioning, but it appears just as it did 16 years ago.

Jake Burton Meets Rice

Jake Burton Meets Rice

Aspen, Colorado

There I am chillin’ and checking things out at the Burton booth. The previous day I was wondering if Jake Burton comes to things like the X Games. He’s such a high profile person and leads the entire snowboard industry. Then out from the Burton booth comes Jake Burton in his snowboard gear headed to the lift. Crazy, Jake Burton could be heli-boarding anywhere in the world and here he is snowboarding at Aspen on the busiest day of the year standing in the ridiculously long lift line? Another dream, within a dream, within another dream. I’ve been wanting to meet Jake Burton since I bought my first Burton Twin 149 when i was fourteen. To see him riding there when it’s so busy showed me how much he loves to ride, which is what it’s all about. He keeps it real. This is why Burton has done so well, this is how he understands what riders want, this is why one day he’ll be looking at my resume.

Of all the great athletes you met at the X Games, I was most thrilled that you met Jake Burton! Trust me, I'VE been hearing about Jake Burton since you were 14 (10 years!), begging for your first snowboard. Just think about it.....you were placed in the right spot at just the right time, or it would never have happened. I don't think it was just a coincidence, but a God-incidence (as Carol Tembreull would say!) You had the faith to step out of the box and pursue this HIT, and now look at all that has happened. I am proud of you....
